Suzanne Gaulden, a history department teacher here at NSA. She is from Charlotte, NC originally and went to an arts school (similar to NSA!) where she focused on dance. She moved to Tennessee after her freshman year of college and attended MTSU where she finished in 2006. Mrs. G got married last summer and has an almost 8-year old daughter. Her favorite color is black; she loves anything chocolate and enjoys long walks on the beach. I decided to have a quick interview with her about some struggles she has been through to see if she has any advice that we could relate to, and this is what she had to say:
NSA Times: Have you ever gone through something that you felt like you couldn't get over?
Mrs. G: “Definitely! Without going into too much detail, I felt like my entire world was falling apart. Major parts of my life were changing and I was starting completely over. It was by far the hardest time of my life!”
NSA Times: What steps do you take in troubling situations?
Mrs. G: “I remind myself that everything in life is temporary. I try to think about where I want to be one year from now and what steps I need to take to get there. I try to focus on what I can change instead of what I cannot. Often times that is just my mindset.”
NSA Times: What as a moment or time in your life that affected the way you lived from then on?
Mrs. G: “I have too many to count. The biggest one was actually the event that I thought I couldn’t get over. When I finally came out on the other side I realized that I was stronger, wiser, and more myself than I had ever been. It was extremely empowering!”
NSA Times: What is some advice you would give to your younger self if could?
Mrs. G: “Take your time growing up! Adulting is hard; don’t be in such a rush to get there that you lose yourself.”
