Summer break is almost here, which means that many students will have a lot of free time on their hands. Instead of lounging around at home, go out and experience the best activity Nashville has to offer: live music.
CMA Fest
The CMA Music Festival has been held since the seventies, and it’s hard to ignore. On June 7-10, thousands of country fans will flock downtown to watch their favorite stars, as well as lesser-known artists, perform. There are three main stages, and only one requires a paid ticket. Even if you don’t like country music, it’s still fun to walk around and experience downtown in a different setting.
Musician’s Corner
Musicians Corner is held every Friday and Saturday from May 11th until June 30th. This free concert series aims to shine the spotlight on emerging Nashville artists. Among the extensive lineup is Preston James, a former NSA student. The event is held in Centennial Park, which gives visitors the space to lay down a blanket and relax. There are also many food vendors and local artisans occupying this space.
Jefferson Street Jazz and Blues Fest
Jefferson Street has a rich musical heritage. In its heyday, musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles performed in clubs that lined the historic North Nashville street. The Jefferson Street. Jazz and Blues Festival celebrates this unique history. Live performances, along with food vendors and merchants, will be at Bicentennial Mall on June 16th. The festival will be kicked off the day before with a block party, located at 5th and Demonbreun Street.
There will be many more performances and festivals throughout the summer. Hopefully these three festivals will motivate you to seek out more live music.
