How To Spring Clean (Without feeling overwhelmed!!)
As a habitually neat person, I tend to spring clean even though I don’t need to. But like most people, I get annoyed when spring cleaning. I take everything out of drawers, put clothes all over my bed, and let old papers spread themselves over the floor. Then, it’s been three hours and all I’ve done is look through my old yearbooks.
I have seven tips to help you spring clean, if you are like me and find it incredibly difficult.
1. Put on fun music.
Music always helps me clean. Make a playlist, or shuffle an album you love. If you listen to music while you clean it will go a lot faster and you will have more fun.
2. Do one task at a time.
Don’t pull all your clothes out, remove your desk drawers, and dump your backpack on the floor at one time. Organize your clothes first, then your drawers, then your backpack. It’ll be so much easier.
3. Give away clothes if you haven’t worn them in a year.
If you haven’t worn something in a year, and it doesn’t have sentimental value, give it away! Chances are you will instantly declutter your closet and make room for new clothes. If the item of clothing is completely ruined, if it’s torn, ripped, or stained, throw it away.
4. Try to stay away from distractions.
If you find something that could possibly be a distraction, put it to the side and look at it later. You’ll be a lot happier when you get everything cleaned faster because you decided to look at Instagram after you finished.
5. Start small.
Don’t attempt to clean your entire house in one day. Clean your room one day, closet the next, and your bathroom after that. Breaking up the tasks will make it feel a lot easier.
6. Throw it away.
Old makeup? Papers from fifth grade? Pens that no longer work? Throw them away! There’s no need to keep all that lying around.
7. Relax after.
Treat yourself to a relaxing night once you’ve finished. Watch a movie, read a book, take a bath, whatever you want to chill after your full day of cleaning.
If done right, spring cleaning can be fun and go by quickly. After you’re done, your house/room will feel wonderful just in time for spring!
