Spirit Week
By: Emily Haas
Spirit week is the time where students show their passion for their school sports teams, but NSA doesn’t have their own sports team, so we just do it for fun. It was originally for NSA seniors, so they can get to show their spirit and express their excitement for graduation. Even though seniors are usually the ones that are most excited, Spirit week is now applicable for the entire school. It is the week of October 23 up until Halloween this year and each day has a different theme. Monday is Pajama day, Tuesday is Twin Day, Wednesday is Charity Day, Thursday is Act your Age Day and Friday is Rep your Class day. The Next Monday is Rep your Culture and then finally, Character Day wraps it up on the day of Halloween.
Pajama day is the easiest day in my opinion because personally, I just roll out of bed and come to school; but Monday is the day to pull out all your Onesies and fuzzy socks. Twin day you get to match with your best friend from head to toe! On Wednesdays we wear pink, or in this case pink for Breast Cancer. Charity day is the day you wear any color or symbols that rep your favorite charity. On Act your age day: Freshman are babies, sophomores are toddlers, and juniors are adults (or a mid-life crisis), and seniors are senior citizens. Friday is Pep rally day!! Freshman in yellow, sophomores in orange, juniors in red and seniors in black! People’s background and where they come from can be a big part of their lives, and Monday, October 30, is the day to show off your culture. Finally, Halloween day is character day. Where you’re scariest, weirdest and most awesome costumes!
I had a conversation with the yearbook staff, who are creators of this year’s spirit week, to ask them their reasons on choosing this week and these days out of other ones. There were three main reasons to this year’s spirit week. They wanted to keep students active and cheerful. They chose this week specifically to incorporate Halloween, plus spirit week is usually around this time anyway. I’m a super excited to see everyone’s take on spirit week! Rep your class day is by far going to be my favorite along with a lot of the seniors as well; but no matter what your fancy, this week is a week to have fun and show NSA spirit!
